teaching programming

Programming is one of the most challenging aspects of the computer science subject, both from the teacher's and the student's perspective. Therefore, in my research, I primarily seek tools to make the teaching and learning process more effective. One such tool is algorithm visualization, which visualizes the operation of the algorithm in runtime. There are several forms of visualization, among which one is animation, and the other is the visualization of data (the state space). A suitable example for the latter is invoking the use of a spreadsheet. The main focus of my research is on teaching beginners, especially capturing the moment when the learner encounters a Neumann-style programming language for the first time.

teaching information security awareness

My research focuses on two areas. Firstly, I aim to map out the effective teaching methods and tools that can be used to impart elements of information security awareness appropriate to a given age. The goal is not only lexical knowledge and the recognition of the appropriate technical terms but also raising awareness, meaning a behavior change. The other goal is to recognize the needs from both the student and teacher perspectives. Therefore, I seek answers to the question of what (about what) is worth teaching in primary school (both lower and upper grades), secondary school, teacher training, and teacher professional development. In other words, what makes a good curriculum, and how can a good curriculum be developed in the field of information security awareness at various levels of education?
